I understand that the roles I have occupied seem unconnected, having worked in commercial law, church ministry, language training and higher education. The commonality lies in the skills and insights I seek to bear on each, and in the effort – in every context – to “break open the world” so that each situation yields its meaning and reveals its possibilities for creative transformation.

Both paid work and other commitments give me the opportunity of engaging across contexts, languages and continents and to enjoy the stimulation and perspectives that such a situation allows. I believe that all aspects of my work and life benefit from these multiple perspectives.

Resonances of my experience and aspiration I find in this quotation (attributed to L. P. Jacks)

“A master in the art of living draws no sharp distinction between his work and his play, his labour and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence through whatever he is doing and leaves others to determine whether he is working or playing. To himself he always seems to be doing both.”

In the Projects menu above, and through the home page, you will find a little detail of my present activities.
